But he knows she won't leave it alone. He would want to know too, whether he had made the right choice or the wrong choice. Not that anyone's response would ever answer that question for him. He asks it every day.
His defensiveness makes his words a bit harsh, but there's no question that the harshness is pain. Spilling out the words while clutching something broken inside himself. ]
You sacrificed yourself for everyone else, and I had to watch you fade away. And no one even cared because everyone forgot about you. I did too, until I saw you here and it...
[ What is the word. These are fresh feelings he's never articulated before but he feels compelled to try even if it's inelegant. ]

[ She actually takes a step back again when he asks her why. The question knocks her completely off balance. Not just because it's not what she expected to hear, but because of the emotion behind it. The harshness. It's like ... he's scared.
The outcome he tells her is very strange to hear, like someone else is listening to it and she's just taking it in from afar. It doesn't sound like her life, it doesn't sound real, and yet ... and yet, she knows instantly in her heart that it's the truth. ]

But she can't watch his tears and not react, even if she hasn't the least idea of what to do. So instead she acts on instinct, closing the distance between them and taking both of his hands in her own. She presses them together and curls her fingers around them, bringing them up right to the level of her heart. ]
I'm sorry. I'm sorry ... that I had to leave you like that. Even though it hasn't happened for me yet ... I know it had to be that way. There wasn't any other choice. If I didn't decide to go ... something awful would have happened to you. [ She tries a smile, little and sad though it is. ] You're my best friend. I'd do anything for you. And besides ... Sora needed me, too. So, please ... don't cry.
[ He holds her hands tightly, his head hanging forward because no one ever really wants to be watched while crying. Not even when they're best friends, strung together over time and space by love and suffering. ]
Sora told me he was sorry, about what happened. He wouldn't make us disappear. So I'm going to figure it out.
